POTTY. TRAINING.

The fact that I'm writing this after midnight tells you what kind of day I've been having...

It's the end of Day 2 of potty training the twins, and I couldn't let this momentous occasion pass without a blog post...

I meant to make a post last night, but when midnight rolled around, I was like, eff it, I need to go to bed.  Tonight, idk, I just needed to post something while we were mid-shit show.  So I had jotted down some notes at the beginning of the day today, thoughts one day in, then I'll add in whatever rambling thoughts I had about today...

The girls were really excited to wear their big girl under wear - I got 4 packs of 7 with Minnie (or Mickey, if you ask Delilah or Madeline 🙄) - but that was about it.  The method I was/am following (I'll talk about that later, or another post, idk) says you should be saying 'tell me when you need to pee' a whole bunch of times, and every time I said it to these two, the response was 'no'.  Also, most times I went to check their underwear to see if they'd gotten wet, I got my hand slapped.  Which, I mean, bodily autonomy, good for them learn boundaries now, but... There were even times when the underwear would come off because we had an accident and then we would raaaagee when I tried to put a new pair on.  We spent a lot of time in the bathroom.

The girls were mostly unfazed by their accidents, unless it was a ton of pee and it leaked out onto their foot.  We had a lot of false poop alarms - lots of yelling poopie, only to have empty underwear or just pee.  We had no real success - a couple of times there was pee in the potty bc we had sat there so long, but I guess it counted and we got our rewards (mini chocolate chips).

There was lots of screaming and crying - this was mostly happening in the bathroom, which I get, this is new and different and who likes change?  I'm sure the girls were exhausted and constipated (as of this posting, Maddie hasn't pooped since Sunday, Delilah had 3 #2 accidents just this evening, TMI, but this is a post about potty training, so...), they've both been very clingy, also especially in the bathroom.  So what I've been trying to do is catch at least one baby in the act (they literally give no signs they're peeing), grab her and run upstairs, and hope the other baby is as interested and will follow on her own.  Otherwise, I would leave the first baby sitting on the potty upstairs, run down and grab the other baby, which was probably met with screaming bc we were playing and now we're not happy, but they can't be left alone, because you're supposed to be watching them constantly, and what if she made an accident and I didn't see where, and now there's a hidden puddle of pee?  Once the other baby is in the bathroom, she probably wants to sit on the potty too, but the first baby is jealous and pops of the potty with her wet bottom and is crying and climbing all over your lap.  The other baby is triggered by the crying and also starts crying, bc something is clearly wrong, and now she wants to be in your lap too.

So now at the end of Day 2, it felt worse - was everyone more tired? was it actually worse?  We had less accidents, but we definitely didn't drink or eat as much as yesterday (probably bc we were full of poop!), and then we ended up running out of underwear and just resorted to pull ups, which, you can't tell if they've made an accident bc they're really just diapers.  Bedtime took 2 hours and I had to eventually just run away without snuggling anyone, but they only cried for 2 minutes after Grant left them.  Maddie has been up several times crying or whimpering (like right now).

I'm trying to look at some positives, because I really wanted to scream and cry all day today - like, I can't tell you how annoying it is, and I get it - this is new for them, it's hard, they're 2 - but we would go up to the bathroom because someone had an accident; I manage to get both babies upstairs (having a split level and the baby gate over the stairs to the bathroom - so stupid); first baby sits on the toilet - clean her up, check other baby's underwear - wet.  Why didn't you tell me you had to make a pee pee?  Sit her down, take her underwear off.  Every is clean, get new underwear, get everyone to start heading down the stairs (a project in itself...), get to the bottom of the 6 stairs, someone yells poopie!  grab everyone, run back upstairs, everyone's peed their underwear.  rinse, repeat forever until you die.

But oh right, the positives.  So we did manage to make pee in the potty, even if it wasn't like we did it on purpose.  Maddie would tell me when she was about to have an accident, and I think we just couldn't get to the bathroom in time, which seems to be a little more progress than yesterday, when I was just kind of stumbling on the accidents doing spot checks.  Same for Delilah - she told me she had poop in her underwear/pull and wanted to go to the bathroom, so we get kind of that it's all related, even if we haven't gotten to the part where we go to the bathroom FIRST.

Ok, Maddie is crying, so I'm gonna wrap this up.  Think good thoughts for Day 3!
